And I did ask for your own criteria for that evaluation, so thanks for giving it.

In regards to Mel Gibson's The Passion Of Christ, thanks for mentioning that. I wrote some comments on Messy Christian's blog today about how it idealizes the suffering in ways that are not possible in real life. There was hope by some that there would be revival, decisions for Christ, following the movie. Well, I do pray for revival and the film is powerful, but I was never hopeful that the film would produce revival. I guess in someways, I was very satisfied with its impact on the culture. It gave chances to discuss with other the merits of the film and its message. When I go watch a movie, part of what I want is a good story and ideas to discuss with my family and friends. So in that regard, The Passion of The Christ was great. By the way, I loved the Aramaic and Latin dialog, being a language enthusiast.

And lastly, ya gotta love Bob the Tomato.pruittcommunicationshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01644765530747792593noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6816469.post-1100896864263780022004-11-19T15:41:00.000-05:002004-11-19T15:41:00.000-05:00For film, you at least ought to consider Mel Gibso...For film, you at least ought to consider Mel Gibson's movie. It wasn't produced by an evangelical, but it's thoroughly Christian. It turns out not to have been useful evangelistically in itself, which I would have thought anyone with half a brain would be able to predict, but it was incredibly helpful for those who thought carefully about it to raise other questions and probe deeper with people who were thinking about Jesus because of the film.

Veggie Tales is about as quality as you get, both in terms of content and in production value and entertainment excellence. It's about the ideal you're looking for in this, and nonbelievers like it and watch it if it can get to them. It's not marketed to them, so they have to know Christians who like it. With so many parents just looking for something to sit their kids in front of, not caring what it is, it's a little easier, but I've seen graduate students in philosophy who weren't Christians enjoying it. I wouldn't call it a real evangelistic tool.Jeremy Piercehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03441308872350317672noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6816469.post-1100896468638743232004-11-19T15:34:00.000-05:002004-11-19T15:34:00.000-05:00Christian music often has an impact on kids of bel...Christian music often has an impact on kids of believers who themselves have not genuinely believed. I know as a Presbyterian you'll insist that they're already in the covenant even though they're not Christians, and thus you might still see this as in-house, but even if I give you that you still have to admit that it still counts as evangelism.Jeremy Piercehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03441308872350317672noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6816469.post-1100715747353220712004-11-17T13:22:00.000-05:002004-11-17T13:22:00.000-05:00I think blogging is a very under utilised outreach...I think blogging is a very under utilised outreach medium. Much of it is in-house when it could convey messages to Christians and non-Christians. I enjoy some Christian blogs very much - and must say the ones I enjoy most and derive most from are also blogs that I think a non-Christian could read and derive benefit from.
As for books - it's really hard to say. I read three before I was a Christian, two were testimony books (one of those was Born Again by Chuck Colson) and one was for Christians - called Disciples. It was the one on discipleship that impacted me. So I recommend giving people two or three varied books.Catezhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14514176885131945814noreply@blogger.com
